I mean brand new have had it for two weeks maybe, but I literally just took it out of the box for the first time today and was transferring files onto it for an hour or so. My WD drives have been much more reliable.
Three of them have failed on me in the past 2 years. Personally I have no respect for Seagate external drives. If it's still covered by warranty, contact Seagate about returning it for a replacement. This will almost certainly have damaged the head and the platter because they should never touch each other.

The clicking noise is the sound of the read/write head trying to free itself from the platter where it's trapped.

If the drive is still having issues take it to a Windows machine and run SeaTools for Windows on the drive.The drive is damaged.If the drive is plugged into a USB hub try removing from the hub and plugging it directly into the XBox.If the drive is not being detected, try a different port on the Xbox.If not, disconnect, reboot the Xbox, then reconnect.If you plug in an external drive with the Xbox on and get the prompt to format it, but hit cancel, it may no longer be detected, even after a restart.Disconnecting and reconnecting the drive while the Xbox is on should resolve the issue.If you plug in an external drive while the Xbox is off and you wait until the LED goes off on the drive, it may not be detected when you power on the Xbox.Troubleshooting suggestions for detection issues: After selecting the drive, you should be able to play the media that is saved on the drive.If the drive is not detected in Media Player, disconnect and reconnect the drive while the Xbox is on.You can then view the content using Media Player:.The first time the USB drive is connected to the Xbox One, it will prompt to reformat the drive for use with games and apps.Movies, music and pictures can be saved to the drive and played on your television using the Xbox One media player.The Game Drive for Xbox can be used to play or view media through the Xbox One.If the drive does not meet these requirements you will not be able to save or play games to the drive.
